Rekha beats Monika for title

FARIDABAD, October 27: Top seed Rekha Sehgal of Sirsa overcame two games deficit to beat second seed Monika Singhal in a hard-fought match to clinch the women's singles title of the Haryana State Table-Tennis Championship.

In well-contested five games, Rekha rushed ahead winning the first two games 21-13, 21-19 before Monika fought back and won the third and fourth 21-15 and 22-20. But Rekha quickly overcame the jolt and came back to win it 21-13 and clinched the title.

In the men's singles quarter-finals, top seed Ganesh Ahuja of Sirsa beat eigth seed Pradeep Kumar of Faridabad. In another match, 40-year-old unseeded Subhash Batra of Panchkula beat fourth seed Neeraj Mani of Karnal.

The Cadet boys title was won by unseeded Rohit Verma of Sirsa who upset fifth seed Prashant of Karnal 21-8, 21-16 in the title clash while Preeti Singh of Rohtak overcame Reema of Bhiwani 21-19, 18-21, 21-9 to emerge winner in the Cadet girls section.

The sub junior boys singles title was won by top seeded Sunil Ahuja of Sirsa who beat second seed Neeraj Kumar of Panchkula 21-11, 21-11 to claimed the title. Ahuja had no difficulty in putting it across his rival.

In the sub junior section, girls singles crown was won by second seed Monika Singhal who humbled top seed Meenu Babbar of Sirsa 21-13, 21-13.

Women's semifinals: Rekha Sehgal (SRS) bt Sweta (FBD) 21-18,21-14; Monika Singhal (SRS) bt. Bhawana (RTK) 21-16,21-13. Final: Rekha Sehgal bt Monika Singhal 21-13, 21-19, 15-21, 20-22, 21-13.
Men's singles: (Q-F): 1. Ganesh Ahuja (SRS) bt Pradeep (FBD) 20-22, 21-13, 21-14, 21-9; 2. Subhash Batra (PKL) bt. Neeraj Mani (KNL) 21-19, 18-21, 21-19, 16-21, 21-18; 3. Jinender Jain (FBD) bt. Cadet Boys: (semi-finals): 1. Prashant (KNL) bt. Rahul Dahiya (RTK) 22-20, 20-22, 21-10; 2. Rohit Verma (SRS) bt Deepak (SRS) 21-19, 21-17;Final: Rohit Verma bt Prashant 21-8, 21-16.
Cadet Girls (Final): Preeti Singh (RTK) bt. Reema (BHN) 21-19, 18-21, 21-9.
Sub-junior Boys (SF): 1. Neeraj Kumar (PKL) bt Gagan (KNL) 21-10, 21-13; 2. Sunil Ahuja (SRS) bt. Gaurav (GGN) 21-6, 21-7; FINAL: Sunil Ahuja bt Neeraj Kumar 21-11, 21-11.
Sub-junior girls (S-F): 1. Monika (SRS) bt. Charu (RTK) 21-10, 21-13; 2. Meenu Babbar (Srs) bt Suman Saini (RTK) 21-10, 21-7; Final: Monika bt Meenu 21-13, 21-13.
