WHO misleading India on AIDS: Kothari

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NAGPUR, Oct 28: Dr Shantilal Kothari, director of Academy of Nutrition Improvement, has sent telegrams to the President, Prime Minister, Human Rights Commission, Science and Technology Minister and MP E Balanandan of the CPI, cautioning about implementation of the AIDS policy by the government.

Kothari has drawn attention of the national leaders to the point that the World Health Organisation has been misleading India about AIDS through international media and creating a fear psychosis among the people to satisfy vested interests.

He blamed the WHO for failing to provide any answer to the challenge thrown by scientists to provide evidence of HIV link with AIDS. Yet the WHO has gone ahead with reports of epidemic deaths due to the disease.

According to Kothari, there is an international conspiracy to create an atmosphere of fear in the world about AIDS. The condom manufacturing companies stand to gain profit as their sales have increased manifold in the name of controlling AIDS.

Kothari expressedsurprise that National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) or other health agencies of the government have shied away from debates to prove the linkage of HIV with AIDS. On the other hand these agencies have shown an undue haste in implementing the AIDS control programme directed by foreign agencies, including WHO.

Kothari has asked the government to be cautious while implementing the AIDS control programme without verifying all relevant information.
