VADODARA, Oct 28: The Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) has decided to introduce Wide Area Data Communication Network (WAN) to link the Board field offices, load despatch centre, power stations and the head office.According to an official spokesman, the WAN would not only provide faster communication between various offices, but also provide intranet solution for ready access of information.
While the Power Finance Corporation, New Delhi has agreed to fund the project, the Gujarat Electricity Board is in the process of selecting consultant for this project.
The Gujarat Electricity Board has decided to computerise data at the division levels. Software will be developed by an Ahmedabad-based company for 74 divisional offices. This would help the Board in getting on-line information from the field offices. The WAN project is expected to be completed within two years.
The spokesman further said that billing of 76 lakh high tension and low tension connections and other categories of consumers were already computerised.
