CHANDIGARH, Oct 28: Western Air Command secured 139 points to will the overall title in the Air Force weightlifting championship which concluded at 3 Base Repair Depot here today. Training Command and South Western Air Command with 133 and 127 points got the second and third positions respectively. However, defending champions, Maintenance Command with 117 points were relegated to the fourth spot.In the 105 kg category, Harnam Singh of Maintenance Command bagged the gold medal with a total lift of 247.5 kg. He pulled 115 kg in snatch and 132.5 kg in jerk. JS Dabash of Western Air Command was second with a total lift of 220 kg. His team mate MS Khandari was third, who lifted 212.5 kg.
In the above 105 kg, PK Shamra and J Veeramani got the first and second positions respectively.
Results: 105kg: 1 Harnam Singh -- total 247.5 kg (snatch 115, j 132.5 kg), 2 JS Dabash -- total 220 kg (s 87.5 kg, j 132.5 kg), 3 MS Khandari -- total 212.5 kg (s 92.5 kg, j 120 kg). Above 105 kg: 1 PK Sharma -- total 235 kg (s 105 kg, j 130 kg), 2 J Veeramani -- total 212.5 kg (s 97.5 kg, j 115 kg).
Trials today
Trials to select Chandigarh schools under-17 boys and girls teams in handball and basketball and under-19 boys and girls team in hockey for the forthcoming National School Games to be held in Chandigarh from November 14 to 19, will be held on October 29 and 30.
In the boys group, hockey trials will be held at Sector 42 Hockey stadium on October 29 at 3.p.m., while the girls trials will take place on October 30 at the same venue.
The basketball trials for boys will be held at Sector 7 Sports Complex on October 29 at 3 p.m., the girls team selection will be conducted on October 30.
The handball trials is slated to be held at DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8. The boys team selection will take place on October 29 while the girls on October 30.
Shivalik Trophy
The final match between DAV School-8 and Sanjay Public School-44 for Shivalik Trophy cricket tournament, would be played on October 30 at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium.
Pawan for US tennis
Pawan Kapoor of Chandigarh will be taking part in the US Satellite Tennis Championship to be held from October 28 to November 22. This is Pawan's second participation in the US Satellite Championship.
