Three MSU union leaders arrested

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Oct 29: Three student union leaders of the M S University were detained by the Sayajigunj police in front of the Commerce faculty on Thursday morning following a police complaint that they had broken the window-panes of several city buses on Wednesday.

They were detained for some time at the Sayajigunj police station before being transferred to the Gorwa police station.

Meanwhile, students aspiring for admission into professional degree courses said they would continue with their agitation if the State government authorities did not act immediately and start admissions at Ahmedabad. They suited action to words by breaking window-panes of buses in Karelibaug.

Talking to Express Newsline, university general secretary Prakash Verma said this was their way of drawing the State government's attention to their demand. ``If the government has decided to initiate the admission procedure there's no reason why it can't do so immediately'', he said, adding that they would send telegrams to the chief minister and the education minister to this effect soon.

Verma warned that if the government failed to take any step in this direction immediately, they would continue their rampage in various parts of the city.

Meanwhile, the centralised admission committee based at Ahmedabad announced that the admission procedure would begin from November 9. Maharaja Sayajirao University vice-chancellor Anil Kane told Express Newsline on Thursday that if the programme began as scheduled, students would not lose a semester. Many students had been worried that this would be result of the delay.
