EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Oct 29: The Swimmers from the North gave a shock defeat to their counterparts from the South in both the men and women group on the third day of the All India Inter-University aquatic meet being held at Panjab University Swimming Pool.

The first upset of the day was in the men's section when Jaspreet Singh of Punjabi University, Patiala, who was close second to Advit Pandit (Madras) in the 200 metres freestyle event yesterday, gave a sterling performance in the 200 metres individual medley in the meet today by breaking the previous meet record with a time of 2:26.53, which also gave him the gold. The old record of 2:26.72 was set by Bhanu Sachdeva in 1995. While Advit, who had been hitting the headlines for the past two days, came three stroke behind the winner to win the silver with a time of 2:32.63. A Rameshan of Calicut got the bronze in 2:35.37.

Rakhi Mehra of Delhi University, who had been lying in the shadow of her counterparts from the Southern university on Day One and Two of the meet, pulled up an exciting win over Sumy Cyriac of Kottayam in the women's 200 metres individual medley event today.
