Poetry with ambience to enthrall

Experience the joy and celebration which one seeks from a Diwali magazine issue - this time brought live on stage in a presentation by Shrushti on Sunday. The immortal thoughts and bhajans of Sant Kabir once more move people and a melodious recital by Upendra Bhat is sure to attract music lovers. A panorama of landscape scenery can be enjoyed through the art works of Satish Deshpande, Pranash Joshi and Vija Raikar. Those who adore poetry are in for a rare treat: Javed Akhtar recites some of his works.

Alliance Francaise de Poona: L'etoile du Nord (1982, Colour) Directed by Rerre Granier and Deferre. Edouard Binet returns to Europe from Egypt. On board the North Star he meets Sylvie Baron, a pretty girl who is fascinated by him, but he is a fugitive, hunted by the police...At 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Film Festival: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of France and National Film Archive of India present homage to film maker Robert Bresson through a film festival: l Les Dames Du Bois De Boulogne (The Ladies of the Boulogne Wood) 1944/ B&W / 90 min. Helene wants to take her revenge on her lover Jean, who doesn't love her anymore. She asks Agnes to play ``the comedy of love'' to Jean... On Monday.

Le Proces De Jeanne D'Arc (The trial of Joan of Arc) 1962, B&W, 65 min. Directed by Robert Bresson, the cast includes Florence Carez. Bishop Cauchon and the assessors interrogate Joan of Arc relentlessly. Joan, in her cell is under surveillance and in fear of being raped. Terrified by the torture that awaits her, she abjures her earlier statements and faith and accepts to be burnt. On Wednesday.

Au Hasard Balthazar: (To Chance, Balthazar) (1966, B&W, 90 minutes) : Directed by Robert Bresson, the cast includes Anne Wiazemsky. The story revolves around a donkey, pet of Jacques and Marie who christen him Balthazar. On Thursday. All the above films will be screened at National Film Archive of India at 6.30 p.m.

National Film Archive of India: The Forbidden Planet (USA, 1956, Col, 98 min) Directed by Fred McLeod Wilcox. The cast includes Walter Pidgeon and Warren Stevens. William Shakespeare's The Tempest reworked as science fiction, the film is a gem of the genre. A space cruiser is sent to the planet Altair 4 in AD 2200 to investigate the disappearance of a spaceship that was lost twenty years back. They find the planet to be inhabited by a survivor of the vessel, his daughter and a robot. At 6.30 p.m. on SaturdayNashtachakra: Kalasakt will present the reading of a play, Nashtachakra followed by a discussion. The play revolves around the tragic accident of an only daughter.The play, written by Vidyasagar Mahajan, will be read out by Vikram Gokhale, Ila Bhatt, Meera Velankar and Anshuman Apte. At Patrakar Bhavan in Navi Peth at 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Chalta Bolta Diwali Ank: Live presentation of a Diwali issue. Humorist Mukund Takasale, flutist Pandit Arvind Gajendra Gajendragadkar, music director Anand Modak, and Sudhir Gadgil will present their items. Ujwala Mehendale and Madhav Gokhale will host the issue. Organised by Shrushti. At Vidyarthi Sahayak Samiti Hall on F.C. Road, behind B U Bhandari showroom 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Bharatnatyam: Antara Nritya Niketan presents `Nritya Palavi.' Bharatnatyam recital will be performed by budding artistes Jui Deshpande and Tanvee Kale. At Tilak Smarak Mandir, 10.30 a.m. on Sunday.

Programme on Sant Kabir: Maharahtra Culture Centre presents a programme on the bhajans of Sant Kabir. The artists include Amruta Kolatkar-Mehendale, and Girish Dhumal. The first show will be held at Sneha Sadan, Narayan Peth, at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday.

Santwani: On the occasion of Kartiki Ekadeshi,a recital by Upendra Bhat, disciple of Bhimsen Joshi. as well as Nirupana by eminent Marathi poet Vasant Bapat. At Abasaheb Garware College, 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Landscape paintings Exhibition of works by Satish Deshpande, Pranash Joshi and Vija Raikar. At Balgandharva Kala Dalan, Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Art for everyone: Exhibition of paintings by Shakuntala Patade and Supriya Wadgaonkar. At Cafe Sunrise, J.M. Road, on till November 19.
