Mishra, Vaid string last wicket century stand

MUMBAI, OCT 30: Sudanshu Mishra and last man Pratik Vaid authored a splendid revival in Mumbai A's 46-run victory over Nasik in a Group B match of the State-level under-14 Saamna Trophy Cricket Tournament at Shivaji Park today.

Tottering at 108 for nine, Mishra and Vaid were involved in a 106-run alliance that saw Mumbai A rake up an impressive 214 off 40 overs.

While Mishra slammed an unbeaten 84 (99b, 9x4), Vaid chipped in an useful 40 (48b, 6x4).

Opting to bat first, the Mumbai outfit were in dire straits when they lost four wickets for 10 with Nashik medium-pacers Dhuryashil Sonavane (3-42) and Salil Aghakar (3-21) doing the damage. But they did make a partial recovery to reach the three-figure mark. It was at this stage that Mishra and Vaid began their rescue act. In reply, Nashik could only muster 168-8.

In a Group A tie, Pune piled up a massive 302 for 5 off 40 overs against Konkan mainly through the first-wicket century partnership between Sanket Puranik (58: 77b, 9x4) and Aditya Sharma (65:62b, 5x4) and Prashant Naik (72: 50b, 13x4).

In reply, the Konkan side were dismissed for 73 with medium-pacer Amit Medankar capturing four for 18 in 6.2 overs.

At the MiG Club, Vidarbha registered an emphatic seven-wicket win over Thane. Vidarbha wicket-keeper Ali Akbar, who excelled with four catches was adjudged man of the match.

Earlier the tournament was inaugurated by Maharashtra CHief Minister Manohar Joshi in the presence of former Sandeep Patil and Vinod Kambli.

Thane 92 in 35.3 overs (Swapnil Ambulkar 3-15) lost to Vidarbha 96-3 in 19.4 overs. MoM: Ali Akbar.

Noman Syed sparkles

Right-arm leg-spinner Noman Syed played a stellar role as Nalla Sopara's St Aloysious routed Bombay International by nine wickets in the MSSA-Colgate Harris Shield Inter-School cricket tournament, today.

Batting first, Bombay International were shot out for 50 with Syed claiming six for eight. The Nallasopara school reached the target for the loss of one wicket.
