NEW DELHI, OCT 30: The countdown for the legislative Assembly polls in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram has begun with the respective governors issuing the notification for polls to be held on November 25.About 220 million voters, will cast their vote in the polling for 70 Assembly seats in Delhi, 320 in Madhya Pradesh, 200 in Rajasthan and 40 in Mizoram.The last date for filing nominations has been fixed for November 6, while scrutiny of nominations would take place the next day. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is November 9. Once the polls take place on November 25, counting of votes is scheduled for November 28, with the election process to be completed by December 4.
Bye-elections to the Lok Sabha from Bharuch in Gujarat, necessitated by the death of BJP MP G Deshmukh, would also be held on November 25.
Simultaneously, filing of nominations also began today for Assembly bye-elections in Adampur in Punjab, Agra East in UP, Baijnath in Himachal Pradesh, Sehor in Bihar,Udharbond in Assam, Namdampur in West Bengal and Mongoya in Nagaland.
The Election Commission has announced that electronic voting machines will be used in 16 constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi.In the capital electronic voting machines would be used in Sarojini Nagar, Gole Market, Minto Road, Kasturba Nagar, Jangpura and Delhi cantonment in Delhi.
The state assemblies are likely to be constituted before their terms expire in late November or December.
