MUMBAI, OCT 30: Eager owners of Apollo Circus today allayed fears that animals in their custody are not well cared for. At an unprecedented press conference held in the wake of petitions by animal activists and high court orders against circus owner, Ranjan Kumar, one of the proprietors, wanted to make clear his side of the tent.Criticising the one-sided focus by the media on animal lovers, Kumar said, ``That is why people think we are cruel to animals,'' he said, adding, ``it is not true. We are like a big family.''
Showing off a certificate given to him by Minister of Environment and Forests Maneka Gandhi, Kumar said animals were well-looked after in Apollo Circus. ``Besides, no one will feel like watching a circus if there are no animals,'' Kumar claimed.
