NEW DELHI, October 30: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the main store of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences here on Friday morning. Medical Superintendent Dr R.K. Pandhi said that the CBI officials met him to take his permission before raiding the store. He said that the investigative agency had not disclosed the reason behind the raid. ``They came to me because they had to formally inform me before visiting the store,'' he said.The Medical Superintendent could not confirm whether anything had been seized from the store. He said that he would be informed about the outcome of the raid only on Saturday. Institute Director Prof. P.K. Dave was not available for comment as he was away to Ludhiana and was expected back only on Sunday.
CBI officials were also not available for comment. CBI Public Relations Officer S.M. Khan said that he had been away in Ghaziabad and was not aware of the raid.
The raid coincides with the ongoing investigations by the Crime Branch into use of old stocks of drugs and equipment by the G.B. Pant Hospital. The CBI is already investigating the alleged excessive purchase of material by the hospital during 1989-90.
