LAHORE, Oct 31: Asian hockey champions South Korea outpaced Pakistan 4-3 in an exciting match of the Champions Trophy here today.
Kim Young Bae slammed home two expertly converted goals on penalty corners to give Korea a 2-1 lead. Pakistan had taken the lead in the 4th minute when Ali Reza's hit off a penalty corner rebounded and Mohammad Sarwar deflected a cross from left out Baber Abdullah.
South Korea scored two more goals in the span of seven minutes during the second half. Kang Keon Wook scored a scintillating goal in the 45th minute and netted the fourth goal in the 52nd minute.
Pakistan reduced the deficit through Kamran Ashraf seven minutes before time. World and Olympic champions Holland defeated Spain 3-2 in the opening match. In another match, Australia, the Commonwealth champions stunned holders Germany 2-0.
