Tipnis to succeed Sareen as Chief of Air Staff
Vice-chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal A Y Tipnis, was on Saturday named the new air chief who will take over from Air Chief Marshal S K Sareen retiring on December 31 this year. An outstanding fighter pilot, he took active part in the 1965 operations and flew many combat missions, flying with the first MIG-21 squadron.

Pvt Varsities Bill to be reintroduced
The Ministry of Human Resource Development is preparing a Cabinet note on the controversial Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Bill, 1995, and will re-introduce it in Parliament during the winter session, incorporating amendments. The note will include the recommendations of the 1996 Parliamentary Standing Committee on the HRD Ministry and specifically address the fears of commercialisation of higher education.
