Holland down Germans, Pak held

AGENCE FRANCE PRESSE
LAHORE, NOV 1: Olympic champions and World champions Holland upstaged defending champions Germany 4-2 in the Champions Trophy hockey tournament here today.

Holland now have two wins out of two while the Germans have lost their second match in a row.

All six goals were scored in a fast paced first-half with the Dutch forwards too hard to stop.Bram Lomans opened the scoring for the World champions in the 10th minute with an accurate scoop off Holland's first penalty corner.A minute later Dirk Buma turned a solo effort into Holland's second goal, sneaking the ball past German goalie Christopher Reitz.

Germany pulled one back through Bjorn Emmerling who converted a penalty corner.

The Dutch team increased the pressure after the German goal and Piet Geeris slammed home another field goal in the 20th minute after a poor clearance from the German defence.

The Germans managed to slip through 27th minute when Christian Atchmann hit an angular shot to score. Marten Eikelboom scored the fourth goal forHolland.

Better show by Pak

Hosts Pakistan put up an improved show to draw 2-2 with Olympic silver medallist Spain in the second match played today.

Pakistan, who lost to South Korea yesterday, gelled well up front but again showed weakness in defence. Pakistan and Spain played a barren first half, with both teams failing to find an opening. The second half saw Sohail Abbass and Baber Abdullah scoring for Pakistan while Spain's goals came from Joseph Sanchez and Juan Escarre.
