MUMBAI, Nov 4: Dadar XI B moved into the pre-quarterfinals of the Mini Rovers Cup when they beat Ahmednagar DFA 7-6 through tie-breaker at the Cooperage today.In the day's first match, Neil D'Costa's hat-trick helped Income-Tax drub Mahindra Tractors 4-0 and enter the last eight.
In the second match, both teams failed to score during regulation time and Ahmednagar medio Allyn Gaikwad's push from the spot to the right of Sylvester Dickson (the third goalkeeper used by Dadar in the match) was blocked to give Dadar XI B the go ahead.
Dadar XI were unlucky in the fifth minute when striker Deepak Diwakaran failed to put a rebound in. Custodio Fernandes' 20-yard drive struck the bar and the ball came back into play. Diwakaran latched on to the ball but only to kick it over the goal.
Three minutes later, Simon Pascal D'Souza's weak shot was foiled by Viju Vergese. The former got a parallel pass from Dickson who dribbled past a defender before unleashing a pass to D'Souza.
Then came the easiest of thechances. D'Souza was brought down by the visitors' goalkeeper and referee Sabu D'Costa pointed to the spot. But Diwakaran's lazy shot to the right was fisted out.
The visitors came close to scoring a late goal when V Vinod's low cross from the right was tapped in by onrushing striker Xavier Swamy. But with luck on the hosts' side, the shot went straight to the hands of Nilesh Chavan who collected on second attempt.
TAXMEN TRIUMPH: Striker D'Costa opened the flood gates in 32nd minute. He added the second three minutes later and completed his hat-trick by punching in third in the 62nd minute. Medio Clifford scored off a penalty to make it 4-0 in favour of Super Division team.
