PAITHAN, Nov 4: Amid noisy protest by the Youth Congress and allegations that this was just another one of the Shiv Sena-BJP government's hyped programmes, Chief Minister Manohar Joshi on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of the proposed Sanvidyapeeth (University for religious learning), and announced that the university would begin functioning within a year.Brushing aside allegations, the Chief Minister said the plans and budget allocations for the Vidyapeeth will be made public by November end.
The Vidyapeeth which will spread across an area of over 17 acres at the foot of the Jayakwadi Dam, will be built on the lines of the famous Santiniketan near Calcutta, the Chief Minister said.
One of the trustees of the Vidyapeeth, I M Pathan, renowned scholar on Santh literature clarified that the Vidyapeeth will not be limited to any one religion or caste but would strive to become a common centre for the teaching of Hinduism, Islam, Christianity and other world religious.
