Power officials raid 44 cold storages in city
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Nov 4: The Gujarat Electricity Board detected power theft to the tune of Rs 44 lakh from 29 cold storages located in several parts of the State. A Board spokesman said on Wednesday that the theft was detected during raids conducted in Vadodara, Anand, Sabarmati in Ahmedabad, Mehasana and Palanpur. The raids were conducted by 37 teams of selected officers for two days beginning October 31.Of the total 119 cold storages checked, power theft was detected in 29 cases, including 18 cases, where the cold storage owners were found re-selling the electricity, the spokesman said. He said the Board had been receiving complaints of hoarding of vegetables and power theft in cold storages. It may be noted that during his recent visit to Vadodara, Energy Minister Kaushik Patel had said that the Board would, in the current financial year, lay emphasis on reducing power theft and transmission and distribution losses.
