Nassir Wajih ensures title
Nassir Wajih of Railways confirmed his title in the inter-ministry chess tournament defeating JP Srivastava to lead with nine points at the end of the 10th round at Nirman Bhawan. He will have to play one last round but the title is as good as his as the second placed V P Sharma of Railways was behind Nassir with 8 points. Sharma beat B C Saho in today's game. K Ravinder Naik, JM Baisakh, Rajesh Kumar, Anil Kumar Kalsayan and DK Gupta were sharing the third place with 7.5 points each.

Results: JP Srivastava lost to Nassir Wajih, VP Sharma bt BC Saho, K Ravinder Nath drew with JM Baisakh, Ashish Yadav lost to Rajesh Kumar, Anil Kumar Kalsayan bt Ramesh Prasad, P Ramesh Reddy lost to DK Gupta, Santosh Kumar lost to P Chakrapani, SP Mahto bt TR Nauriyal, JC Dutta bt PK Jain, Virender Singh bt Tajinder Singh, Sunil Prabhat bt V Venkataraman.

Paras, Abhinav shine
All-round display by Paras (88 and 2 for 18) and Abhinav (60 and 2 for 9) enabled Bal Bharti Public School humble Springdales Public School by 207 runs in an inaugural match of P Jain Trophy (undr-15) organised by Rohtak Road Gymkhana at the Ramjas ground.

Brief Scores: Bal Bharti: 307 for 5 in 40 overs (Paras 88, Abhinav 60, Kunal 42 n.o). Springdales: 100 all-out (Akshay 20, Nitin 3/22, Abhinav 2/9, Paras 2/18).

Title for APS
Army Public School (Dhaula Kuan) boys won the CBSC inter-school basketball tournament beating Chinmaya Vidyalaya (Vasant Vihar) 84-58 at Chinmaya School ground. At the break, winners were leading 36-22. For APS, scored 44 points to be the sharp shooter while Anuj contributed 27 points. For Chinmaya Pankaj (15), Pranav and Kasi scored 10 apiece. In another match, St Michaels triumphed over JD Tytler 61-56 to clinch the third position.

CEA move up
Central Electricity Authority beat Directorate General Foreign Trade by seven wickets in Inter-ministry match.

Brief Scores: CEA: 106 (Khalid 21 n.o, Dobhal 17 n.o). Dte GFT: 105 (Sumeet 3 for 17, Ashok 3 for 24, Baljeet 3 for 21).

Sanjeev sparkles
All-round performance by Sanjeev (87 and 3 for 32) helped VAI India crush Outlook by eight wickets in the second Duttu Phadkar Memorial tournament at Palam.

In another match, ICICI triumphed over Tata-IBM by two wickets. Sanjeev Singh was the top scorer for the winners while Sandeep contributed 32 for the losers.

Jagjit Soni stars
Fine display by Jagjit Soni (47, 3/28) and Mohan Kumar (4/17) enabled S B Chauhan XI thrash Golden Arrow by 85 runs in the second Hari Singh Tyagi TYCA league at Yamun Sports Complex.
