SURAT, Nov 5: Rains continued to lash the city and district as well as many parts of South Gujarat for the third day on Thursday, with three rain-related deaths being reported to the authorities till Thursday evening.While Jignesh Chandulal Patel, a resident of Delwada village near Maroli in Navsari district and Haribhai Tandel of Umarsadi near Pardi in Valsad died after being struck by lightning, Rumiben Kishanbhai Gamit (24) of Bhadbhunja village in Uchhal taluka was electrocuted on Thursday, the police said.
Somabhai Patel and Jagdish Patel, who took shelter under a tree on the Maroli Delwada Road near Navsari, were also stuck by lighting on Thursday, the police said, adding they were undergoing treatment in a hospital.
While Surat city received heavy rains, which began in the evening and continued in the night, no casualties were reported from any part of the city, according to the authorities.
There have been reports of heavy unseasonal rains in the tribal districts of Valsad, Navsari and Dangs as well late on on Thursday.
