EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NOIDA, November 5: The Noida police have arrested two persons for purchasing goods worth Rs 25 lakh against Citibank cards cheated off card-holders. The accused reportedly posed as employees of Citibank and convinced people to part with their credit cards.

Of the two arrested, Dileep Aggarwal is the son of a retired judicial officer from Bihar.

The Noida police were alerted by Kamaljeet Singh Kalsi, a petrol pump owner in Sector 12, who said there were two men at his departmental store and he suspected they were using fake credit cards.

Acting on his complaint, a police party headed by the Station Officer, of Sector 24 Police Station, Alok Kumar Sharma, arrested Jayprakash Gupta and Aggarwal from Kalsi's departmental store. The police also recovered goods worth Rs 1 lakh and a Maruti car from their possession.

During the interrogation, the two reportedly confessed to having purchased articles worth Rs 25 lakh using the fake credit cards. The police also gave details of their modus operandi. The two would get addresses of credit-card holders from the postman. They would call up the MTNL enquiry to get their telephone numbers and called up the card-holders, claiming to be Citibank employees. The accused reportedly told them that in the wake of recent incidents of forgery, the bank had decided to issue photo-identity cards.

One of the accused would then go to the house of the victim to collect their photographs, the credit card and their signatures.

They reportedly forged these signatures to purchase what they wanted and would destroy the cards after using them only once.
