School teacher murdered in Janakpuri

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, November 5: Treasurer of the Delhi School Teacher Welfare Association Satish Kumar Joneja was murdered in the Janakpuri area last night. Joneja, who worked with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), was allegedly murdered because his wife had filed a PIL against a school for illegal occupation of park land. He was apparently being threatened on the phone for the past few days and according to the police, the key suspects in the case are eight office-bearers of the Samrath Shiksha Samiti, which ran the school.

A resident of Kakrola Housing Complex, Joneja stepped out of his house around 7.30 pm last night for a paan. He bought the paan and was last seen by the paanwallah with a stranger. Late in the night, his wife Santosh Joneja, general secretary of the Samarth Shiksha Samiti, filed a missing persons report at the Matiala police station.

Meanwhile, the Janakpuri police station received a call this morning regarding an unidentified body in the Pappankalan area. It was identified as Joneja's and the police suspect that he was hacked to death by an axe.

Santosh Joneja had reportedly filed a petition in High Court, alleging that the Samiti had illegally occupied the land in A-2 block of Paschim Vihar. She had also filed a number of other petitions against the 43 schools run by the Samiti.

Satish Kumar Joneja received a number of threatening calls after the petition was filed. The couple had apparently brought this to the notice of the police, but no action was taken.

Jagdish Chandra Ahuja, Govindram Aggarwal, Radheyshyam Sharma, Khejanchand Batla, Ajay Awasthi, Rajender Gupta, Darshan Lal Katiyal and Pramod Jain are the eight office bearers who are the main suspects in this case.
