Among the proposals accepted this year are the recognition of two new Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalayas, construction of Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth buildings at Sringeri, Lucknow and Puri, establishing Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeths at Garali in Himachal Pradesh, Mumbai and Bhopal, and an increase of Rs 2,500 a month in the honorarium to Shastra Chudamanis (national Sanskrit scholars).

The corpus fund of the Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Vidya Pratishthan, Ujjain, has also been increased from Rs 10 crore to Rs 20 crore, so as to provide funds for the building's construction. Kireet Joshi, who was part of the panel that represented Vidya Bharati's recommendations to Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, is the vice-chairman of theVed Vidya Pratishthan (among its members is Acharya Kishore Vyas of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad-supported Ved Vidya Pratishthan). Joshi is also on the board of the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies at Shimla.

In 1997-98, the Ministry budgetary estimate for development of Sanskrit was Rs 32.31 crore, but this was reduced to Rs 19.96 crore in the revised estimate.

The Ministry is also examining the working of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, an autonomous institution set up in 1956 to promote the spread of the national language.
