India in UN budget panel; US defeated
Six countries, including India and Pakistan, have been elected to the United Nations budgetary committee, while the United States was defeated on account of its failure to pay its arrears to the world body.

President asks Justice Dept to resolve judges' row
President K R Narayanan has taken note of the row over the resignation of Justices Y S Jahagirdar and A Y Sakhare of the Bombay High Court, who quit the posts for personal reasons on October 17. "I have received your letter of October 20, 1998, which I have perused.'' Narayanan informed Leader of Opposition Chhagan Bhujbal in a written communication who had urged the President to constitute an inquiry into the episode.

Sharma aide asked to vacate Delhi house; neighbours relieved
Romesh Sharma's associate Kunzom Budhraj is on the prowl again, looking for another house. Following an order by Additional District Judge (ADJ) S N Dhingra, the Budhraj family was made to vacate the B-121 Sarvodaya Enclave home, where they have been living for the past three years.
