LAHORE, Nov 8: New plans to promote field hockey has been unveiled by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) here during the ongoing 20th Champions Trophy men's hockey tournament. Two measures suggested were the staging of a championship for teams which do not feature in top events and improving the sport's marketing strategy.
FIH treasurer Robert Lycke said: ``We intend to give hockey more exposure with the help of sponsors and TV coverage and earn more money.''
Referring to the idea of holding a Hockey World Series, FIH president Juan Angel Caldazo said, ``we are working on that too, though we have problems of sponsorship and participation.'' Top hockey nations like Holland, Pakistan and Germany are against the idea as it may clash with their domestic programme and international events.
