BERHAMPUR, Nov 8: Wildlife officials are concerned over the outbreak of a mysterious disease that has claimed many animals at the Taptapani deer park, about 60 kms from here, in recent weeks.At least 22 deer died within a week of contracting the disease, Conservator of Forests B K L Rao told PTI. The disease, according to Rao, was caused by a rare and deadly virus, which spreads very fast. The concerned divisional forest officer, Rao said, had been asked to take remedial measures.
Veterinarians from Berhampur and the Nandankanan Biological Park near Bhubaneswar had already visited the spot and treated the affected animals, Rao said, adding care was being taken to ensure that other animals were not affected.
