CHANDIGARH, Nov 8: A "looting" spree by two scooter-borne commandos of the Punjab Police that began near Hallomajra at 10.30 p.m. last night finally ended in the lock-up of the Sector 39 police station a couple of hours later.Constables Jagbir Singh and Kartar Chand of the Third Battalion, camping in Phase XI of S.A.S. Nagar, borrowed a friend's scooter and after waylaying chat-sellers Abhimayu and Sat Pal near Hallomajra, snatched Rs 410 from the two, a police officer said.
"While Kartar Chand, who was in uniform, was driving the scooter, Jagbir Singh sat behind him," the official added. He said the two resurfaced an hour later on the road dividing Sectors 45 and 46 and snatched a rickshaw-puller's wallet. In the meanwhile, the chat-sellers alerted the police and a message was flashed to all police control room vehicles to look out for the duo.
The two, about 45 minutes later, confronted a rickshaw-puller and a passenger near Sector 40 and snatched Rs 120 from the two. It was after the rickshaw-puller raised an alarm that a nearby police vehicle nabbed the two, an official claimed.
The two were arrested and three different cases of snatching, illegal detention and criminal intimidation were registered in different police stations. The two were produced in a local court and have been remanded to the custody of the Sector 39 police, it was added.
