CHANDIGARH, Nov 8: The Congress is poised to wrest power in Rajasthan and Delhi and retain it in Madhya Pradesh in the November 25 elections, claimed former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal.Bhajan lal, who now represents Karnal in the present Lok Sabha, said the people of the country were disillusioned with the misrule and deteriorating law and order situation under the BJP rule. The spiralling prices of essential commodities, particularly onions, potatoes and edible oils have added to the miseries of the common man, he added while talking to reporters at Panchkula.
``The directionless and contradictory policies of the Vajpayee government have ruined the country's economy. The people have realised that Congress alone can salvage the country from the present impasse,'' he said.
He predicted that since allies of the Vajpayee government were a disenchanted lot, the winter session of Parliament in December would be a stormy one. The Tamil Manila Congress, the Trinamool Congress and the Akali Dal were already echoing their displeasure with the Vajpayee government on various issues, he claimed.
According to him, with Congress president Sonia Gandhi at the helm of affairs, the party has been strengthened further. On her directions, Congress leaders in Haryana would canvass for the party in the forthcoming polls in Rajasthan, MP and Delhi. He himself would be touring these states for electioneering.
He said party leaders from Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Bhiwani, Mahendergarh, Rewari and parts of Faridabad and Gurgaon districts will be canvassing in Rajasthan. Similarly, leaders from Yamunanagar, Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Jind, Jhajjar and Rohtak districts would seek people's support for the Congress in Delhi.
Replying to a question on Sushma Swaraj replacing Sahib Singh Verma, he said it would make no difference, as Delhiites were set for a change.
The former Chief minister alleged that law and order situation in the state had been continuously deteriorating, ever since Bansi Lal assumed office. The developmental activities had come come to a naught and electricity for irrigation was not available in the agricultural sector, he added.
He, however, declined to comment on the growing factionalism within the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, saying the time was not opportune.
