Academy inaugurated
Zed Career Academy, franchise of Zee Education, was inaugurated in the city on Sunday by professor K U Joshi, head of the electronics department, SVR Engineering College. The Academy will be run at the Institute of Computers and Management Studies. While professor Satyendra Kumar, head of MVA Department of the South Gujarat University presided over as the chief guest, Uma Ganesh, chief executive officer, Zed Education, Mumbai and Veena Khurana, principal Experimental School were the guests of honour.

Mock drill
The Kakrapar Atomic Power Station held a two-day `off sight' emergency drill to educate the local people what they should do in case of any eventuality in the plant. While District Collector R M Shah inaugurated the mock drill, Station Director, spoke at a seminar on `Nuclear Radiation.' Among others, DCP Vaghela, Assistant Collector Mukesh Kumar attended the drill.

Entry banned
DCP P I Bunet has banned entry near Umara village (survey no 94, 95, 96 and 98) in Choryasi taluka, as armed police are to conduct a 22-day firing test, beginning November 9. While the test would be held from 6 am to 6 pm, fishermen have also been asked not to venture into the Tapi for fishing.

Training given
The Farmers Training Centre, under a programme `Training Women in Agriculture,' trained 15,588 women farmers in agriculture. The participants were apprised of low-cost technology in agriculture and animal husbandry, among other things.

Excise strike
Vadodara: Group B and C officers of the Central Excise and Customs as well as Income Tax Departments will observe a three-day strike all over the country on November 10, 11 and 12 to press for their demand of pay-parity with their counterparts in Central Bureau of Investigation and Railways. The anomalies in their pay scales have been created following Fifth Pay Commission's recommendations, which fixed scales of Group B and C officers in Excise and IT departments much below that that of officers of the same rank in other central government departments.

Drawing contest
A three-day programme to mark Children's day will be organised by the Baroda Citizens Council beginning November 12. A drawing contest will be held on November 12 at the Planetarium, a rally will be organised from Race Course to Kamatibaug on November 13, and a `bal march' will be held at the Gandhi Nagar Gruh on November 14.
