NEW DELHI, Nov 9: India and United States today held preliminary talks to explore various export control regimes to check nuclear proliferation in the wake of the May nuclear tests in the sub-continent.The Indian side, led by Alok Prasad, Joint Secretary, External Affairs Ministry, explained New Delhi's position on export control mechanism while the US team, headed by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State John Barker, gave an overview of Washington's export control regime.
Officials said the talks were part of the on-going dialogue on nuclear issues between New Delhi and Washington. The parleys were aimed at finding a common position on export controls, they said. The meeting assumes significance as it comes close on the heels of Clinton's announcement of waiver of some of the sanctions.
