VADODARA, Nov 9: Roads and Building Minister Savjibhai Korat, who rescued victims of two different accidents between Anand and Vasad on NH-8 on Sunday afternoon, accomplished yet another feat when he helped apprehend four policemen of the State Traffic Branch and a man while they were allegedly extorting money from truck drivers near Karjan the same evening.Two persons had died and four seriously injured, when a truck hit a roadside tree and car collided head-on with another vehicle on Sunday afternoon. Korat, who was passing by on his way to Vadodara from Gandhinagar, immediately asked his driver to stop when signalled by the people and helped move the injured to hospital.
Near Karjan, when Korat saw a truck being stopped in front of his car and policemen allegedly demanding money from the driver, he alighted from his vehicle and checked their official vehicle, said District Superintendent of Police Shamsher Singh. And after finding Rs 14,000 cash stashed in the vehicle, Korat informed the police promptly, he added.
