Ciba Specialty, Clariant merge
Swiss multinationals, Ciba Specialty Chemicals and Clariant AG announced creation of the world's largest specialty chemicals company through what they called a "merger of equals". The new industry powerhouse will have combined global sales of Swiss franc 18 billion ($13.2 billion) and operations in more than 120 countries.
Colgate tops A&M survey
Oral care firm Colgate has topped the list of India's top brands in a survey conducted by A&M-ORG-Marg for India's top brands. Colgate - which is facing stiff competition from Hindustan Lever's Pepsodent - has regained its position in 1998, after being dislodged by Vicks last year.
TMB proposes share buy-back, AGM soon
In a new twist to the battle for control of the cash-rich Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB), the bank board has decided to hold its overdue annual general meetings (AGMs) without election of directors and seek shareholders' approval for buyback.
