MUMBAI, Oct 11: Arvind Mills Ltd, the flagship company of the Lalbhai group, has set up Asia's most modern textile facility at Santej near Ahmedabad which would contribute 40 per cent of company's turnover a year from now.The Rs 1,200 crore Santej facility houses plants for manufacturing shirting fabrics (including an exclusive indigo unit), knits fabrics and garments as well as chinos/gaberdines bottom weights. It brings Arvind's total capacity in shirting fabrics to 34 million metre per annum (MMPA) and adds a capacity of 16 tonne per day in knits and 19 MMPA in bottom weights. Company officials say that the new 430-acre facility would produce a range of dyed and yarn dyed fabrics including fancy weaves, dobbys, grindrele, satins, twills gaberdines and chinos, besides specialised finishes like easy to iron, peach, microsanded, natural, bio-airflex, microsueded, wrinkle free, stain and soil resistant fabrics. Besides, the facility has a ``design reproduction and creation cell'' supported by textile andgarment designers as well as merchandisers who would work with customers to create customized collections and product ranges.
The complex will enhance Arvind's product range and make them more responsive to the changing fabric requirements of some of the world's leading garment brands.
