Builder stabbed to death

A builder was stabbed to death over a land dispute at Sahar village near the international air terminal on Tuesday night, police said. Jaswant Singh Cheema (42) in his dying declaration told police that one `Johnny' had attacked him. Cheema was removed to the Cooper Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. Police are on the lookout for the killer.

Widening of Vasai arterial road soon

Work on widening of the arterial Ambadi road in Vasai (W) will begin in two days and completed within nine months, according to P N Deshpande, Chief Engineer of the CIDCO on Wednesday. Deshpande also announced that the demolition of illegal chawls in the taluka will be stopped and a decision on their regularisation will be taken by the CIDCO after a meeting with representatives of four municipal councils within nine months. This decision followed a six-hour rasta roko and gherao by over 2000 persons including women in front of the CIDCO Superintendent's Office at Vasai (W) onMonday.

Rakhee, Hade compromise likely

Advocates for actress Rakhee Gulzar and Regional Passport Officer Vishnu Hade have informed the Metropolitan Magistrate, Bhoiwada today that both are working out a compromise in the sexual harassment case filed by Rakhee. Metropolitan Magistrate V V Phand gave the parties two weeks' time to settle the matter amicably. The case will now come up for hearing on November 25, 1998.

Kala Ghoda fair from Nov 15

The Kala Ghoda fair showcasing Indian crafts and culture to foreign tourists will be opened for public at K Dubhash Marg, near Rhythm House on November 15, including all Sundays, till January 3, 1999. The fair organised by Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. has been sponsored by Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Craftsmen, registered with Development Commissioner of Handicrafts, from various states of India to participate in the fair. Stalls of several handicrafts will be put up at the fair. -- Newsline reports
