Councillor's complain: Congress councillor Nisha Naiyar has alleged that physically and mentally challenged students of civic primary schools were not looked after by specially trained teachers. In a letter to Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria, Naiyar has alleged that the teachers, who were specially imparted training in Bhopal a number of years ago, were not doing their job properly in the absence of a supervisor.
She has also alleged that a large number of equipment of the Project Integrated Education For The Disabled (PIED) were lying unused for lack of staff. She has also raised questions regarding the number of PIED centres and the steps taken to improve the administration.
Inquiry demanded: The Vadodara chapter of the Gujarat Senior Citizens' Federation has demanded an inquiry regarding the demolition of a building on the Pratapnagar Road. The Federation has alleged that the demolition was ``at the behest of some people having vested interests.'' In separate letters to Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria and Mayor Bharati Vyas, executive secretary P K Desai, referring to Deputy Town Planner J C Patel's transfer on Tuesday, has questioned whether shifting somebody would help get rid of malpractices prevalent in the civic town planning department.
He has also observed that there were several unauthorised constructions in the parking slots of various complexes, which not only inconvenienced citizens, but also compelled them to park their vehicles in no-parking zones. Desai has also demanded that a list of alleged irregularities in the Town Planning Department be prepared and action be taken against those responsible.
Morcha threatened: Residents of Vasant Vihar Society have threatened to take out a morcha to the VMC, if their demand for adequate water supply was not met within four days. In a statement on Wednesday, B L Kotia, an ex-serviceman, said that repeated requests to solve the problem had fallen on deaf ears. Kotia has also claimed that Aloria did not grant him an appointment despite he waited for one-and-a-half-hour. ``Later, I was asked to meet the deputy municipal commissioner (General), who assured that the representation will be looked into. However, the problem still persists,'' Kotia said. He regretted that instead of redressing citizens' grievances, civic officers were wasting time and money going abroad to attend conferences and workshops.
