SMC to built science centre in SGU
The Surat Municipal Corporation proposes to built a science centre on the South Gujarat University Campus. Civic authorities held talks with university Vice-Chancellor R M Shelat on Wednesday, who agreed to the proposal. The centre is to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 3.50 crore. According to SMC Director of Planning R D Desai, the corporation will formally send a proposal to the university, which in turn will send it to the state government for approval.Train halt
In order to facilitate celebration of the historic annual Sanjan Day of the the Parsi community, the Ministry of Railways has decided to halt the 9011 and 9012 Gujarat Express and 9021 and 9022 Flying Ranee at Sanjan station on November 21, according to a statement issued by the railways on Wednesday.
Mill raided
District Supply officer K D Chandanani and Songarh mamlatdar raided an oil mill of one Shiv Kumar Aggrawal and seized oil stocks worth Rs 3,94,200. The officials raided the mill after getting information that there were several irregularities in the purchase and sales records. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the trader under the Essential Commodity Act.
Club meet
The Council of Governors of Multiple District 323 of Lions Club International will meet on November 13, 14 and 15 at Silvassa under the chairmanship of Madhusudan Gala of Jabalpur. District Governors of 14 districts from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan will evaluate the service lions have carried out during four months of 1998-99.
Flag day
A meeting to chalk out programmes to mark flag day on December 7 will be held in the collectorate hall on November 18 at 3 pm.
Meditation camp
Vadodara: The Vadodara Vipasyana Committee will organise a day-long meditation camp for old meditators on November 15. The camp will be organised at 5, Kalandi Society, near Kailash Society, behind Akota Atithi Gruh between 1 and 7 pm. Interested can call on 325293/434630.
Road closed
The road behind Khanderao Market will remain closed for vehicular traffic for three months from November 16, as the Vadodara Municipal Corporation will carry out work to convert it into Reinforcement Cement Concrete (RCC) road.
