A sleepy adventure
Sidhika Bagla
At 1 'O clock the bell rang. All the school children rushed to pack up and head home. My books were still littered. I was slowly packing my books. I called out to my friends but, it seemed, as if they didn't hear me call. I heard the class door bang shut, and the key turn.Silence fell over the entire school. There was a rush of footsteps and suddenly everything stopped. There was no sound of the friendly chattering that I always heard in school. A shiver ran up my spine. The sky turned a menacing grey. I knew it was soon going to rain. Lightning stuck a tree and it caught fire. I was frightened. The table and chair seemed to move. The black board seemed like an open mouth. The wall stretched a mile long. I heard the clatter of chairs. I saw a white figure moving close to me. I now believed the rumour of the ghost that haunts our school was true. The floor was mushy and I started sinking. I was astonished to see my science teacher walk through the locked door. She had fangs and big claws. A nasty look showered on her face. I was going to faint there and then Hssssssssss! I heard the whispering of the wind and swaying of trees. Oh! I heard the footsteps of I don't know what! Then I heard the distant voice of someone calling me by my name. I woke up startled. Oh no! I had fallen asleep in the class. Hump!! What a nightmare I had. I promised my mother that I would sleep early from tomorrow! Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
