Board sets up cell for repairs in transit camps

MUMBAI, November 12: The Bombay High Court's directions to the Mumbai Repair and Reconstruction Board to undertake repairs in transit camps on a priority seem to have had some impact. The board has set up a Transit Camp Repair and Maintenance Cell and allocated Rs nine crore to undertake repairs and maintenance in 42 transit camps.

The cell, to be headed by a deputy chief engineer, will comprise an executive engineer and eight deputy engineers, said Madhu Chavan, the board's chairperson. However, he said he was ``not satisfied'' with the Rs four crore budget of last year, nor with the enhanced budget of Rs seven crore for the current year. ``We will provide civic amenities and sanitation facilities, blocks, street lights, water pipelines, doors, windows, electricity and wires,'' said Chavan. Transit camp occupants have been asked voice objections to the programme by November 30.
