NEW DELHI, November 12: An unbeaten 103 by Sohail Rauf and his two fruitful stands of 139 for the third wicket with Varun Kumar and an undefeated 132 for the fourth wicket with Gautam Gambhir, helped Delhi reach 283 for three in their first innings against Punjab on the opening day of their North Zone Cooch Behar Trophy league match Palam grounds here today.Sohail, a trainee of Raju Tandon at I G Stadium and a regular member of Chand Khanna in local league, struck 10 boundaries in his 324-minute stay, Varun Kumar (69: 12x4, 172m) and left-handed Gambhir (batting 79: 14x4, 139m) have virtually put the home team in a comfortable position after Delhi won the toss and elected to make first use of the wicket.
Delhi lost openers Rajeev Vohra and Neeraj Chawla with the total only 12 before Rauf, Varun and Gambhir revived the team.
Gulzar Inder Singh and Sanjay Dhull claimed two wickets each.
