Retro Friday
It's Friday the 13th and one expects the unexpected. It's that time when a black cat crosses your path and you conjure up all the horrible things that will go wrong on that day, when everything is supposed to be a bad omen. So to ease those frayed nerves, Bullocks has organised an evening with music from the good ole days. Now if there's anything that soothes the soul it's this. At Bullocks there is going to be nothing ominous on Friday the 13th.Fortune faces
This was a contest for those who believe that their face is their fortune. And the lucky first prize winners of the Kodak and Pepsi Mr and Miss Photogenic contest announced on November 12 were collegians Darshana Shah and Rakesh Bapat who won a weekend each at the Cidade de Goa. The function which was to be held at 11 a.m. at the Pride Hotel, finally began an hour later when the chief guests and judges of the contest model Mehr Rampal and fashion photographer Ashok Salian arrived from Mumbai.
The announcement of winners was preceded by a slide show of the twelve finalists, six male and six female. The contest which was aimed at providing youngsters with an avenue into the modelling industry was held in September. The contestants were required to go to 13 designated photo studios in the city and get themselves clicked. The organisers claim to have received over a thousand entries out of which 12 were shortlisted by the judges.
Rozebeh Bharda, Zujar Asgar, Sayali Dole and Nirmala Shinde the first runners-up, received gift hampers while second runners-up Ranjit Shirole, Saurabh Chadha, Ajit Sekhon, Jean Pereira, Karen Pereira and Namrata Pinto received prizes. Besides Rakesh Bapat and Sayali Dole have been selected to be represented by Face One, Mehr Rampal's modelling agency. And yes, the contest also included those that made them look photogenic - the photographers. Ratan Hira of Ratan Art Colour Photo Studio where both the winners were photographed was also given a prize.
Party time!
Jalwa - the hot and happening music video album with its heady cocktail of gyrating bodies, psychedelic lights and that eerie feel will soon hit town. On November 18 Jaws Events will be getting DJ Akbar Sami to perform at Black Cadillac. And on November 21 AMG productions will present Jalwa Live, a gig that will see Akbar Sami, the man behind the amazingly popular music album, Jalwa Dance Hungama, performing at Vrindavan Gardens in Koregaon park. Also performing along with Sami is DJ Ryan Beck, the first runner up at the much hyped War of the DJs in Mumbai, who apparently used a cue stick to scratch records. The decor will be in keeping with the Jalwa theme and to add to the fire works there will be a fire-eater, say the organisers. Entry to the do is free for ladies. If you are game for some hot stuff - this seems to be the place to head for.
A better tomorrow
While police officers in the city are busy coping with increasing crimes and visits of the VIPs, guess what their better halves are upto? They are equally busy with a project called Jagruti spearheaded by Rizwana Kashyap, the police commissioner's wife. Aimed at teaching civic sense and awareness of social hygiene for children aged between 10 and 16 years, of police personnel, the first interactive programme is scheduled on children's Day at the Police Headquarters, Shivajinagar. The members of the National Society of Clean Cities were requested to judge the cleanest police line recently.
The Khadak police line has been given the cleanest chit. Says Rizwana Kashyap, ``On November 14, we have invited children from four police lines and will began with simple questions addressed to them. The need for children to learn about cleanliness is very important and it must begin by changing their own habits like not littering the road or spitting''.
