Ved Singh's widow to be new Samata Party candidate

NEW DELHI, Nov 13: Chaudhury Bhim Singh, the grieving father of the slain Samata Party candidate, Ved Singh, is incoherent at times. But not when he talks about making his daughter-in-law, Pushpa, a candidate to replace his murdered son. ``Georgeji and the (Samata) party have decided it. We will wait for the mourning period to be over to take a final decision. If we say anything now, people will say we are greedy to contest elections,'' confides Bhim Singh, who retired as caretaker of the Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies in Vittal Bhai Patel House.

His sprawling double-storied house bears no trace of his humble background. Nor does the silver Honda City parked near the huge gates of his house, which he proudly shows off.

Lost and bewildered, 25-year-old Pushpa can barely leave her bed to react to the news of her being chosen the new Samata Party candidate. But neither the Samata Party leaders who decided to nominate her, nor her in-laws, who are busy trading charges, are interested in her reaction.

``Nobody has asked me. Nobody has bothered to inform me. I don't want be part of this killer politics. Please leave me alone!'' Pushpa breaks down. She sounds as helpless as her three-month-old daughter crying in the cradle.
