Eighty sacked teachers court arrest

CHANDIGARH, Nov 13: Carrying on their "jail bharo" struggle, nearly 80 activists of Punjab Nav Niyukt Adhyapak Union courted arrest here today. Nearly 20 of those arrested were women, said the police sources.The arrests followed a rally near the office of the Director of Public Instructions (schools) in Sector 17. They marched to the Chandigarh Housing Board roundabout near which they were arrested under Section 107 51 of CrPC, said the police sources. The protesters raised slogans against the Punjab Government and the state Education Minister. The whole affair was reportedly peaceful. However, the traffic had to routed to other points. According to police sources, they were arrested. On October 30, nearly 50 sacked teachers had courted arrest.
