National School Games today

CHANDIGARH, Nov 13: Fifteen teams including defending champions Madhya Pradesh in the girls under-17 group in basketball have arrived to take part in the 44th National School Games which will commence here from tomorrow. The competition is being held in boys and girls section in under-17 handball and basketball and under-19 in hockey.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Sector 42 Sports Complex at 11 a.m, tomorrow.

Meanwhile, hosts Chandigarh is participating in all the three disciplines and are of confident of defending their title in hockey event in the boys section.

The other teams who have arrived are: Maharashtra, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. The fixture will be draw tomorrow.

Harneet shines
An all-round performance by Harneet Arora (29 and 2 for 28) enabled St John's High School-26 beat St Stephen's School-45 by 6 wickets to lift the title in the under-14 group in the Edmund Rice cricket tournament held at St John's School-26.
Brief Scores: St Stephen's-45: 111 for 8 in 25 overs (Surkit 18, Ankit 14, Harneet Arora 2 for 14); St John's-26: 114 for 4 in 20.2 overs (jasrat Bhatti 29 n.o., Harneet Arora 29, Aseem Gupta 16, Aman Bhel 2 for 28).

Kriti bags gold
Kriti and Kamaljeet bagged first positions in the 100 metres dash in the sub-junior and junior categories respectively in the athletic meet held at DC Model School in Sector 7, Panchkula today.
Results: Girls: Sub-junior: 100m: 1 Kriti, 2 Rishleen. 200m: 1 Kriti, 2 Yati. 400m: 1 Manisha, 2 Kanchan. Junior: 100m: 1Kamaljeet, 2 Bhawana. 200m: 1 Raman, 2 Nidhi. 400m: 1 Jyoti, 2 Kamal. Senior: 100m: 1 Hiredpreet, 2 Kanu. 200m: 1 Kanu, 2 Preeti. 400m: 1 Hiredpreet, 2 Monica.

Bishnoi `B' triumph
Bishnoi `B' beat Bishnoi `A' by 5 runs to win the title in the fourth Nerolac ten over-a-side ccricket tournament held at DAV College in Sector 10.Arun Tuli, Kuldeep Bishnoi were declared best bowler bastman respectively.
