CHENNAI, Nov 17: Unruffled by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's threat to take legal action against her, All India Anna DMK general secretary J Jayalalitha today reiterated that the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) had secured loan from a foreign bank and mortgaged its machinery with a Mumbai-based firm.In a statement here, she said Karunanidhi was trying to hide facts by stating that the TNEB had not secured loans from anyone.
She claimed that the Karunanidhi government had secured loans by pledging Rs 300 crore worth bonds with banks and subsequently repaid the same with the funds mobilised through hike in power tariff.
She also claimed that TNEB machinery worth Rs 90 crore had been pledged with a public sector undertaking in Mumbai.
Rejecting Karunanidhi's charge that her allegations were intended to rattle those coming forward to set up power projects in the private sector, she said several private sector project proposals had been cleared only during her regime. Unlike under thepresent regime, there was no power cut during the previous AIADMK regime, she added.
