NEW DELHI, NOV 17: The special court trying the Rs 133 crore urea scam case today framed charges against eight accused including former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao's kin Sanjeeva Rao.Special judge V B Gupta pronounced the order framing charges against Sanjeeva Rao, M Sambasiva Rao, Malleshan Goud, Prakash Yadav, D S Kanwar, C K Ramakrishnan, Cihan Karanci and Tuncay Alunkus for criminal conspiracy, misappropriation of public money and corruption.
Gupta also directed the CBI to file a status report within two months if any material evidence was there to proceed against Narasimha Rao's son Prabhakar Rao.
Meanwhile, Prabhakar Rao's would come up for hearing before the special court here next month.
According to sources at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) here, the special court for economic offences had decided to hold its next sitting on December 21 for further hearing on the urea scandal.
Rao, who had ignored summons of the ED to appear before it with specific documents pertaining to the case hadreportedly sought an anticipatory bail fearing arrest. The court would decide it on November 19, sources said adding Rao is not yet `traceable'.
The ED probing into the alleged involvement of Rao in the scam had issued summons twice during this month asking him to appear before it.
Notices to this effect were pasted at the main entrance of Rao's Jubilee Hills residence in Hyderabad as neither Rao nor his family members were traced in the city.
However, Rao did not respond to the summons nor did he send any representation to the ED in this regard, sources said.
The summons came six months after a non-bailable warrant was recalled by the ED following Rao's surrender before the special court and an undertaking that he would cooperate with the inquiry officials.
