The squad, including 14 standbyes, was released by DDCA sports secretary Sunil Dev here today after `open trials' in which over 700 boys attended. The selectors present at the `selection meeting' were Sheel Mehra (chairman), D S Bawa, Ajit Choudhary, Sunil Aggarwal and Bikker Bahadur. Skipper Sanjay Kumar, Rajat Jaiswal, Amandeep Singh, Tony Singh and Angad Bedi had represented the state last year also. Incidentally, Angad, son of legendary left-arm spinner Bishan Singh, was in the 32-member Ranji Trophy probables list.

Interestingly, Salel Oberoi (off-spinner) is the son of former Delhi and North Zone spinner Praveen Oberoi while Kunal Bhardwaj is the son of former East Zone cricketer Anil Bhardwaj. Kunal Lal (in the standbyes), is the son of Madan Lal, the present National selector.

Abhishek Sharma of Hansraj Model School (Punjabi Bagh), a leg-spinner and a useful bat, is the baby of the squad, at the age of 13.

The 20 selected boys have been asked to report to former Delhi and North Zone batsman K P Bhaskar (coach) and Devinder Choudhary (manager) at 9 am on Thursday (November 19) at the Ferozeshah Kotla grounds before proceeding to Rohtak to play their first match against Haryana, starting the next day.
