Bane shines in Ruparel's march to title

MUMBAI, November 19: Ruparel defeated Mithibai by 77 runs to win the Under-19 Multi-Games cricket for the CK Nayadu Trophy at the Oval.

Rohan Bane scored 66 (6x4, 2x6) and along with Vaibhav Vategokar (25), helped set a target of 180 runs in 29.3 overs for Mithibai. Rakesh Choudhary was the successful bowler for Mithibai with six wickets for 21 runs.

In reply, Mithibai could score only 93. Kshitij Dave (20) and Chetan Rane (16) were the main scorers. Abhjit Tapase took two for 27.

Altaf shines

Altaf Ansari of Anjuman-I-Islam scored the first century of the tournament when he scored unbeaten 189 against St Xavier's Fort in the first round of the MSSA-Colgate Giles Shield inter-schools cricket tournament at the Cross Maidan.

Ansari's knock included 26 hits to theboundary and two over the ropes. In reply to Islam 287 for seven, Xavier's got out for 82 only.

In another match, Arya Vidymandir defeated Holy Cross (Kurla) by one wicket to enter the second round.
