VADODARA, Nov 19: As many as 15,000 children studying in various government and private schools have been examined till date under the month-long health check up camp, which began from November 14.More than four lakh children in city and district schools will be checked by a team of doctors, drawn from government hospitals, semi-government hospitals, municipal corporation and district panchayat.
While in the city, the camp was inaugurated by Mayor Bharati Vyas at Raopura Kumar Shala Number 1, District Panchayat president Kalyanbhai Patel opened the programme in Por. A total 90 teams have been formed in the district.
At the Referral Centre inaugurated at the SSG Hospital, for a month every day between 3 and 5 pm, children will be checked for various ailments. The State Government has given Rs 3 lakh as grant for the nodal centre.
After a month, doctors of specialised fields will check children on Tuesday and Friday. MLA Bhupendra Lakhawala has suggested that such health check-up drives be organised every six months.
For better co-ordination, a committee has also been formed under the chairmanship of Dr Kamal Pathak of the Baroda Medical College. The Committee co-ordinates with medical and para-medical staff in carrying out the check-ups.
