Thirteen Bills to be tabled in next Parliament session

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
KOCHI, NOV 22: Lok Sabha Speaker G M C Balayogi said that 13 Bills on various important issues will be tabled during the forthcoming session of Parliament from November 30.

He told mediapersons here, on his way to the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple, that the Bills included those on women's reservation, urban land ceiling, rent control, and Lok Pal.

Balayogi said he could not say which Bill would get priority. ``My role is that of a facilitator. The timings and priority of the Bills would be decided by the business advisory committee,'' he said.

He said the Prime Minister had already started discussions with all the political parties to reach a consensus on the Bill on women's reservation in Parliament and the Assemblies. Balayogi said he was expecting a turbulent session of the Lok Sabha. The composition of the present Lok Sabha was different from that of the previous ones and so the sessions would always be stormy, he said. For the next Lok Sabha session, the members have already given notices fordiscussion on issues like price rise, population growth, and unemployment.

On the decreasing time of the sittings, the Speaker said the All India Conference of Presiding Officers held recently had passed a resolution that larger houses like the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha should sit for a minimum of 100 hours and smaller houses should sit for a minimum of 60 hours. The last Lok Sabha session lasted 78.2 hours.
