RPI to take out "Mashaal Rally" in city

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, Nov 22: The district unit of the Republican Party of India (RPI) has decided to take out a `Mashaal Rally' in the city on November 28, as a mark of protest against the price rise of essential commodities, including vegetables.

The decision was taken at a general meeting of the city-district unit, held at Bhimnagar area in the city and attended by a large number of party workers and office bearers. President of the city-district unit Madhusudan Gawai said that over 1000 people would take part in the rally, at the end of which a memorandum will be submitted to the collector.

The rally will begin from the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Ring Road at 6.30 pm and will pass through the Sub jail, Majura Gate area to the collectorate. If the collector is not present in the office, the rally would proceed to his house at Athwa Lines to submit him the memorandum, Gawai added.

The party has also commenced registering members from Saturday and has appealed to the people to take part in the rally.

Also speaking at the meeting, South Gujarat trade union leader Suresh Sonawane accused the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre and State of not being able to curb price rise. Under no government since independence had prices of onions, potatoes, edible oil and other essential goods rocketed like under the present government, he accused.

He urged the Republican Party of India to expose hoarders and other traders, who he claimed were being shielded by the State government.

Attempting to dispel another popular notion regarding the Republican Party of India , South Gujarat vice-president of the party Namdev Gajghate said that the Republican Party of India was not only the party of Dalits, Harijans, Adivasis and other socially weaker sections, but all other sections as well.

He added that following orders of the Republican Party of India high command, the local unit had begun registering new entrants and members as party workers.
