2 new PU medals constituted
Punjab University has constituted two new medals for students who stand first in the university examination. A medal in memory of Arjan Singh will be awarded to the student who stands first in Bachelor of Library Sciences, while the student who stands first in M. A.( Punjabi) will be awarded a medal in memory of Ravel Kaur. According to a press statement, the medals have been announced following a donation by a former Deputy Librarian of the University, Joginder Singh Randev, for instituting the medals in memory of his parents.Condolence meeting today
The Kendriya Punjabi Lekhak Sabha will be organising a condolence meeting to mourn the death of Tara Singh Hayer, publisher, Indo-Canadian Times. According to the secretary of the Sabha, Labh Singh Kheva, the meeting will be held at Punjab Book Centre tomorrow.
Essay writing contest held
About 300 students participated in the Bhai Surinder Singh Malik Memorial All-India poster-making and essay writing contest held at Jat Bhawan on Sunday. While 200 participants contested in making posters on the theme, ``Exploitation of Farmers,'' 100 participated in the essay writing contest on ``Impact of Violence and Vulgarity in Films on General public''.
Lok Shakti to hold rally today
The local unit of Lok Shakti will take out a procession on Monday in protest against rising prices. The procession will start around 9 a.m from Sector 19 and pass through Sector 18 and 17 markets before culminating at the UT deputy commissioner's office to hand over a memorandum to him. The party is also demanding dissolution of the Municipal Corporation and statehood for Chandigarh. The protest rally, Kansal said, will be presided over by a party MP V. M. Mansakai.
